The distant dialogue of this book is the »Morgenthau Plan« of the American Finance Minister Henry Morgenthau (1891–1967), which, following Germany’s defeat at the end of the Second World War, envisioned a different future: its transformation into a purely agricultural country. Anselm Kiefer’s depiction refracts Morgenthau’s vision of the future into the magical manifestation of nature, its metamorphoses, colours, and sounds, over which a mystical light is cast.
