Our\u00a0gallery Am Kupfergraben 10, Berlin, was built after an\u00a0international competition,\u00a0initiated by C\u00e9line, Aeneas and Heiner Bastian\u00a0and won by\u00a0David Chipperfield Architects<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Haus Bastian\u00a0is located on the Kupfergraben canal, overlooking\u00a0the Museum Island and the Lustgarten.\u00a0The gallery opened in 2007 with an inaugural exhibition by British artist Damien Hirst.<\/p>\n

The building\u00a0is a modern interpretation of architecture – reacting to its immediate historic context; incorporating the past without replicating it.\u00a0Haus Bastian\u00a0was\u00a0designed\u00a0as an exhibition space and is\u00a0directly related to the cultural heart of the city.<\/p>\n

Donation<\/span><\/p>\n

The Bastian family has donated the Kupfergraben building to the State Museums. The building was handed over in March 2019.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On 28 September 2017 the Bastian family announced their donation of the gallery building to the Stiftung Preu\u00dfischer Kulturbesitz.\u00a0With the intention to serve as a Centre for Cultural Education in the future, the building will be named \u00bbHaus Bastian der Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin \u2013 Preu\u00dfischer Kulturbesitz\u00ab. It will open to the public on 1 September 2019.<\/p>\n
